‘Eight-game unbeaten streak’ 4G, three saves… Park takes 982-game veteran’s advice to heart

In 2018, when the Hanwha Eagles most recently took to the field in autumn baseball, it was the bullpen that was the team’s driving force. While veterans such as Jung Woo-ram were the mainstays, Park Sang-won proved his worth in between.토스카지노
Drafted by Hanwha with the 25th overall pick in the 2017 third round, Park started 18 games for the first team in his rookie year, but the following year he became an integral part of the bullpen, pitching more than 60 games every season for three consecutive years until 2020. In 2018, he was particularly solid, going 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 69 games and 60 innings pitched.
Park, who enlisted as a social service worker after the 2020 season, returned to the team following the August call-up last year, but ended the season without much success. In early October, he felt discomfort in his right shoulder and was removed from the first team roster before the final day of the regular season.
This year, however, Park has regained his pre-induction form. He has a 3-6 record with a 2.48 ERA in 26 games and 29 innings pitched this season, putting him on pace for his first double-digit save total in his career.
Park has also played his part in the team’s eight-game winning streak, picking up three saves in four games. The team’s winning streak came to a halt on the 2nd against the Samsung Lions in Daegu, but Park was still up to the task, pitching a perfect first inning in relief.
“I’ve been talking to the catchers and coaches a lot, trying to figure out how to throw my pitches while putting pressure on (the batters),” Park said ahead of the Samsung game on the 1st. “I’m just trying to focus on going out there and throwing the same pitches and not putting any pressure on myself. “I’m just trying to go out there and throw the same pitches and not put any pressure on myself, because you don’t know until the end of the game, and that’s baseball.
The name Park mentioned was Jung Woo-ram. A veteran of 982 career games and the most prolific pitcher in KBO history, Jung’s mere presence on the mound is an inspiration to the younger members of the team.
“First of all, right now, (Jung) Woo-ram only tells me things like, ‘You just have to throw the way you’re supposed to throw, you don’t have to try to do anything else, and you can’t let your guard down until the third out,'” Park said. “Even if I hear too much, I can’t follow it, so I’m doing what he says is the most important thing, and I think it’s right, so I’m getting good results now.”
“I’m also a player, but it’s hard for me to care about things outside of the game,” he said, adding, “He made sure that I kept working out, and even when I was working out with the second team, he checked things that I didn’t think about.”
Park emphasised his gratitude to Jung Woo-ram, saying, “I’ve met a lot of coaches, and I’ve thanked a lot of people, but he’s the one who’s closest to me and talks to me as a player, and I’m thinking, ‘If I’m still playing, it’s because of you. It’s not (lip service), it’s the truth,” he smiled. Thanks to Jung’s advice, Park is becoming a more powerful pitcher every day.
