NC standout right-hander throws 5 innings of 11K, no-hit shutout for Futures Samsung Electronics
NC Dinos top prospect Shin Young-woo pitched a complete game in the Futures (2nd team) League.
Shin started the game against the Samsung Lions Future Team at Masan Baseball Stadium on April 24.
Selected by NC with the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Shin is a right-handed pitcher with a fastball in excess of 150 mph and a breaking ball with a lot of changeup. Recognized for his potential, he spent the offseason in spring training with the first team.

Shin has yet to make his first-team debut, but he has been playing in the Futures League until recently. While he struggled with his pitches early on, he followed up a strong performance against the KIA Tigers on April 14 with seven innings of one-hit ball, three walks, and eight strikeouts.
Shin was in great form from the start of the game. In the first inning, he led off with a fly to left field. He gave up a single to the next batter, Kim Dong-jin, but struck out Yang Woo-hyun and Kim Ho-jae and got a grounder to shortstop to end the inning. In the top of the second, he struck out Oh Hyun-seok and gave up a single to Kim Sang-min, but retired Cho Min-seong and Ryu Seung-min in order.
In the top of the third inning, the offense continued. He struck out Lee Sung-gyu, Kim Dong-jin, and Lee Byung-heon for the first three-hit shutout inning of the day.
In the top of the fourth, he showed his crisis management skills. After striking out Yang Woo-hyun, he gave up a walk to Kim Ho-jae. He then induced Oh Hyun-seok to fly out to the second baseman, but another wild pitch to Kim Sang-min put runners on first and second, but he didn’t crumble. He got the second baseman to ground into a double play to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Shin Young-woo took the mound and struck out the leadoff batter, Lee Sung-kyu. He then gave up a walk to Cho Min-seong, but struck out Ryu Seung-min and Lee Byung-heon and got a fly out to center field to end his day.
The final line was five innings of no-hit ball, four walks and 11 strikeouts. His total pitch count was 89 pitches and his fastball was measured at 153 kilometers.
After the game ended with NC’s 12-4 victory, Shin Young-woo said on the NC C Team (Future Team) official SNS, “I tried to continue the good feeling from the last game (against KIA on the 14th), and I’m glad it worked out. My teammates scored a lot of runs, so I was able to throw more comfortably.” He added, “(Catcher) (Kim) Hyung-joon did a good job leading off, and (Kim) Hyung-joon trusted him. I’m glad the ball went where it was supposed to go.”
Shin Young-woo’s pitches have always been criticized as a weakness. Even in this game, he gave up four runs on four pitches.
He said, “I talked a lot with my pitching coach in practice and practiced a lot to get the rhythm and balance of my pitching form. When it didn’t work, I tried to think good thoughts. “Even in today’s game, I still had some pitches that weren’t working. I’ll try to reduce the number of pitches that don’t go in and stabilize myself.”
In conclusion, he said, “I will always finish the responsibilities given to me well. I want to thank my seniors and coaches for always taking care of me even when I can’t,” he said. “I will do my best to repay them as much as they expect from me in the future. I will also do my best to show the fans only good things.”
