Oh Hyun-kyu’s Celtic, Hwang Hee-chan’s Wolverhampton face-to-face in Korea in July (comprehensive)

 National striker Oh Hyun-gyu (22, Celtic) and Hwang Hee-chan (27, Wolverhampton) will face off in Korea this coming summer.

The Celtic club officially announced on its website on the 3rd that it will visit Korea in July to play against Wolverhampton as part of the 2023 Asian tour.

According to the club, Celtic, Wolverhampton, and AS Roma (Italy) led by Jose Mourinho and Incheon United of the K League will have a friendly match together.

Celtic will play Wolverhampton on July 26 at Suwon World Cup Stadium.

Celtic has Oh Hyun-gyu, the goalkeeper of Klinsmann, and Hwang Hee-chan, the striker of the national team, is playing for Wolverhampton as well. This is the first time the two players will face each other.

The game will also be held at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium. On July 29th, Wolverhampton and AS Roma will face off, and on August 1st, Incheon United and Roma will have an evaluation match at the same place.

According to the Celtic club, this evaluation match is organized by two agencies, Stadium X and Untouchable Sports Group (USG), and the tournament is named ‘Korea Tour’. The consortium has held competitions such as the FIFA World Cup Asian final qualifiers and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL) in the past.

“European teams welcomed Hwang Hee-chan and Oh Hyun-kyu,” USG CEO Ahn Jae-hyung said through the Celtic club. “We will invite their clubs to Korea to help Korean football heroes be welcomed.”

Meanwhile, unlike the Celtic club’s announcement, the Korea Professional Football Federation (KFA), which hosts professional soccer matches, and Incheon United, which are on the friendly list, did not comment on the evaluation match schedule.

During this period, famous overseas clubs Manchester City (England) and Atletico Madrid (Spain) will also visit Korea as part of the ‘Coupang Play Series’. Even in the federation’s official schedule, there is no schedule for K-League 1 matches from July 23rd to August 3rd.

An official from the Korea Professional Football Federation said, “I haven’t heard that Celtic and Wolverhampton will play in Korea in late July and early August. Nothing has officially entered the federation.”

The Incheon club also said, “It is true that we are discussing, but nothing has been decided.”

Even if Celtic and Wolverhampton visit Korea, it seems that certain traffic control will be necessary.
