U.S. Golf Association appoints first black president in 129 years

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has appointed a black president for the first time since the establishment of the association. The USGA announced on the

Peupall, a native of the Bahamas, has been the CEO of Beck Group, an American construction company, since 2013, and was nominated as the next USGA president candidate in December of last year.

In 1994, he played for the Bahamas national basketball team and since 2019 has served on the USGA Executive Committee. He is also known to have contributed to the establishment of the US Adaptive Open golf tournament, which Lee Seung-min (26) won last year.

The USGA hosts world-renowned major tournaments such as the US Open and US Women’s Open. It also establishes world golf rules together with the Royal Golf Association of England (R&A).

“We don’t talk enough about reconciliation. In golf, we are a community,” he said. “If we rely on each other and embrace more people through golf, not only golf but our lives will also improve.”
