What a debut! 124-ball romantic no-hitter “I tried like crazy”

The Philadelphia Phillies’ Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter in his home debut.

Lorenzen took the mound against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on 10 October.

Lorenzen retired the first batter, Blake Rutherford, on a fly ball to right field. He got the next batter, Alex Cole, to fly out to centre field. The final batter, CJ Abrams, battled through five pitches before he finally got him to fly out to right field.

Lorenzen said, “I worked like crazy to make this dream come true. To get through the seventh, eighth and ninth innings without allowing a run was unbelievable. The fans were so supportive and energising. They gave me the boost I needed. I can’t believe I did it in front of these fans,” he said, thanking the home crowd.
